Private schools in Bossier City, Haughton and around Barksdale Air Force Base
Bossier Parish has fewer approved schools than Caddo but the largest classical campus in north Louisiana, and it carries a population no other Louisiana market has to plan around: the airmen and families at Barksdale Air Force Base, who arrive mid-year, leave on orders and have to prove Louisiana residency with paperwork the Odyssey portal does not expect.

Families in Bossier City also routinely cross the river for school, so treat this list as one half of a metro-wide choice.
| School | Type | City | Grades | LA GATOR tuition | K-12 students* |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Bossier Christian Academy | Christian | Bossier City | PK-7 | ✓ BESE-approved | 57 |

* K-12 enrollment on the state's 2025-26 BESE approval list; federal survey enrollment for schools not on that list. "BESE-approved" means the school can accept LA GATOR tuition if it registers in Odyssey for the year. "Not approved" schools can't be paid tuition from the account.
Why the list is this short
Bossier Parish has 2 schools on the state's approved nonpublic list against 18 in Caddo. The historical reason is that the metro's private schools grew up on the Shreveport side, and the approval list has not caught up with where families now live. One Shreveport-based school also operates a Bossier City campus while the state lists all of its sites under a single Shreveport site code, which is a reminder that the approval list tracks site codes rather than buildings: if a school tells you it has a campus near you, that is worth confirming with the school rather than inferring from the list.
The practical answer for most Bossier and Haughton families is that the metro is one market. The cross-river numbers are better than people expect: the nearest Caddo schools to Bossier City sit about six or seven miles away in a straight line, which is a normal commute, and the account does not care which parish you live in. Where it gets hard is a school in far south or west Shreveport, or Minden 30 miles east.
What Barksdale adds
No other Louisiana metro has to plan around an Air Force base. Active-duty families arrive mid-year, leave on orders, and frequently have no Louisiana tax record, which makes the LA GATOR residency check fail and sends the application to manual review. The route through it is documented and it works, but it takes longer than an ordinary application and that changes how early you should file. We have written it up step by step in the Barksdale guide, including what a summer or mid-year PCS does to the March window and what happens to an active account when you transfer out.
If you are a school in Bossier Parish reading this: mid-year enrollment capacity and experience with a manually reviewed Odyssey application are two of the most useful things you can tell a military family, and almost nobody advertises either. Our partner page has the rest.
