Getting a new school approved

  1. Decide the model: full-time school, two-day hybrid, or marketplace provider only. The third is much faster and is how several programs here start.
  2. Apply to BESE for nonpublic approval through the Louisiana Department of Education, which is an annual approval, and meet the Brumfield v. Dodd nondiscrimination requirement.
  3. Register in Odyssey and accept the attestations covering approved uses, safety, testing and financial transparency.
  4. Price deliberately against the $5,243 and $7,626 awards. In this market a school that lands under the award can tell a family their balance is zero, which is a sentence no Shreveport school can say about a $12,000 tuition.
  5. Expect to explain the quarterly deposit schedule to parents, and set your billing cycle to match it.
